Buffalo Run Snowmobile Trails
View Buffalo Run Trail Map .PDF Document

73 miles of trails developed by the South Bend Snowmobile Club west of South Bend in St. Joseph County.  Indiana snowmobile trails are provided through the cooperation of local snowmobile clubs , the Indiana Snowmobilers Association , and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

The snowmobile trails are open in December, January, February, and March when snow conditions are adequate and the trails are posted as "open." There are trailheads at each trail for parking vehicles and trailers. Only registered snowmobiles may be used on the trails. The Department of Natural Resources' Indiana Snowmobile Trails Program is completely funded by snowmobile registration fees; law enforcement activities, including the Snowmobile Safety Course, are also funded by the registration fees. The cost of registering a snowmobile in Indiana is $30.00 for 3 years.

The Ice Box
1421 South Walnut Street,
South Bend, IN
More Information...

Organized youth hockey came to South Bend in 1968 with the opening of the Notre Dame Athletic and Convocation Center. The program grew to the point in 1975 when a second ice rink in South Bend opened on the city's near west side and was called the ICE BOX. In 1981, a not-for profit corporation called South Bend Youth Hockey, Inc. was created for the purpose of operating the ICE BOX. With the continued growth of youth, high school, and senior leagues and the potential for increased figure and public skating usage, the ICE BOX in 1999 added a second rink and accompanying facilities that represented a $2.5 million expansion and improvement effort. Today, the ICE BOX has generated and is accommodating the requests for additional team practice times, more figure skating, and public skating opportunities, and requests for regional tournaments and competitions. Our bottom-line objective is to make ice hockey, figure skating, and open public skating accessible and affordable.
